Course Description: Taught in Spanish, presents an historical and cultural overview of Hispanic Latin America from its pre-Columbian origins to the present through works of literature, art, music, and videos. Taught in Spanish.
Reflective Narrative: This course has met MLO 3: Literary and Cultural Knowledge by learning new cultures that I had never read or studied about. In most classes at my community college the history we talked about the most was the Mexican one. The other Latin American countries weren’t mentioned at all, except for Spain. Thankfully, this course did not only focus on Mexico and explored all of the Latin American countries. I now have more knowledge on most Latin American countries. I learned their history, civilizations, political views and their economy, but we also talked about the people and their culture. The activities that best helped me achieve my goals was the presentation at the end and the group discussions we had. The presentation helped me focus on a certain country and learn more in depth about it. Furthermore, the presentations my classmates did where also in depth and that helped me learn even more about each country. The most important information I learned from this course was how there is a unity within all the Latin American countries but also each one of them is unique. This caught my attention because at the very beginning it was one the topics we talked and discussed in class. Then, after learning more we went back to this idea and it all made sense. The topics I wish to learn more about is of those countries that we didn’t have time to learn about, such as central America and the Caribbean. Since we slightly went over these countries but not fully into depth I would want to learn their history and culture. I wish to continue exploring the culture and civilization of Latin America by going to all of the countries and experience firsthand their culture and interact with the people. I also intend to either live or teach in one of these countries that way I get to experience how it is living there.
