Courses completed: SPAN 304, 306, 308 & 322
Reflection: These courses have helped me learned more in the area of literature and culture in the Hispanic world. Before starting CSUMB in the Fall of 2016, I only knew of a few literary works from Latino authors. SPAN 304 and SPAN 322 were the two courses that expanded my knowledge about the literature works from Latino authors. In the SPAN 304 I learned how to analyze a poem, short story and plays. This course was beyond what I expected to learn in a semester. I read many poems and short stories, some became my favorite poems and short stories that I shared with others. In SPAN 322 I learned about the pre-columbian works and then during the conquest of Hernan Cortes. It was fascinating to be able to read poems from indigenous people, such as Nezahualcoyotl and Montezuma II. On the other hand, SPAN 306 and SPAN 308 taught me the culture aspect. In SPAN 306 I learned about all the Latin American countries and their history. From the geography to how they won their independence and of all the great leaders who helped, such as Simon Bolivar. In SPAN 308, I learned the pre-columbian times and more specifically on Mexico's history and the Aztlan times. Overall, I have learned so much from all these courses, from pre-columbian times to present times.
