Las actitudes de los estudiantes en una universidad en California hacia el espanglish en un comercial Resumen: Este estudio se enfoca en documentar las actitudes de un grupo de estudiantes de una universidad dedicada a la educación de los hispanos (Hispanic Serving Institution, HSI) en California acerca del cambio de código en los medios de comunicación. Al mismo tiempo se indaga el tema de la identidad con la cuestión de cambio de código en español e inglés. Se seleccionaron tres secciones de un curso de español para hablantes de herencia y una sección de un curso intermedio de español y se les mostró un video con un comercial publicitario donde se observa el cambio de código. Después, se llevó a cabo una encuesta con 100 de estos estudiantes con el fin de averiguar si existe una correlación entre este fenómeno y su identidad. Los participantes respondieron de manera positiva al uso del cambio de código en el comercial y se identificaron con dicho uso. Estos resultados indican que este fenómeno no solo es aceptado entre estos estudiantes sino que también representa su identidad como bilingües en esta universidad.

The Attitudes of Students in a University in California Towards Spanglish in Advertisements Abstract: This study focuses on documenting the attitudes of a group of students at a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI), in California about code-switching in the media. At the same time the issue of identity is explored regarding the question of code-switching in English and Spanish. Three sections of Spanish for Heritage Speakers and one section of Intermediate Spanish as a Foreign Language were selected. They were shown a commercial where code-switching is observed and a survey was conducted with 100 of these students in order to find out: (1) the perceptions of the participants with respect to this phenomenon and (2) if there is a correlation between this phenomenon and the identity of the heritage speakers. The participants responded positively to the use of code switching in the commercial and they identified with it. Such results indicated that this phenomenon is not only accepted among these students but also represents their identity as bilinguals in this university.
